"This SA winemaker turned his family's McLaren Vale vineyard from a bulk producer into one of Australia's specialists in the regional varieties of his parents' native  Italy."

Winemaker - Nick Girolamo

Nick's passion for grapegrowing and winemaking began in the mid 70's when his father, Don Girolamo, realising a lifelong ambition, ventured into grapegrowing on the coastal boundaries of the McLaren Vale wine region.  By 1978, so inspired by the quality of the grapes being harvested on the Aldinga Plains, the plans were in motion to build a winery and add another chapter to the family's history.

In 1984, Nick Girolamo completed his studies and graduated with an Oenology degree from the world-famous Roseworhty College in South Australia. After a tour of the winemaking regions of Europe and South America it was the 1987 vintage and Nick took the reigns at Aldinga Bay and dedicated his efforts to achieving exceptional quality in the company's premium wines.

His depth of knowledge and wealth of experience with Italian grape varieties has already created an impression in the Australian wine scene. Nick's vision of transposing the world renown characters and flavours of traditional McLaren Vale red varieties of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon to increasing popular Italian  varieties is evidenced by many awards, both national and international, won over the past few years.
